Are you feeling overwhelmed by the demands of teaching in today’s fast-paced world, while managing stress, professional, personal and family concerns and navigating the pressure to deliver quality education?

You’re not alone!

In our rapidly changing world, teachers play a crucial role in shaping the future. They bear the responsibility of educating the next generation and nurturing their minds. However, schools in Europe today are facing a major challenge, dealing with growing concerns about the mental health and well-being of both students and teachers. This issue not only affects academic performance but also impacts the overall quality of life in schools and individuals’ life paths. Due to these challenges, the demands placed on educators can become overwhelming, leading to stress and burnout.

Transcendental Meditation

in Education

A scientifically proven whole-school approach

empowering teachers and students to manage stress, enhance resilience,

and create a more positive and effective teaching and learning environment.

What is Transcendental Meditation (TM)?

Transcendental Meditation (TM) is a very simple, natural, effortless and scientifically documented psycho-physiological technique, promoting the integrated and wholistic development of brain functioning, cognitive performance, personality integration, and positive social behaviour and at the same time providing a very deep rest to the physiology, that allows to dissolve the most deeply rooted stress.

What is unique about Transcendental Meditation?

The Uniqueness of this Programme is that it addresses the root-cause of stress, anxiety, negative attitudes, and the challenges in the learning environments that bring to school failure and social exclusion by directly promoting the psycho-physiological well-being of both educators and learners.

This self-balancing technique enhances the ability of teachers and students to experience a profound state of calm and peace within, and to develop naturally and spontaneously their socio-emotional skills. It creates a virtuous cycle of resilience, coping, well-being and quality teaching, promoting a positive environment that favors school success.

No changes in the educational curricula are required to integrate this approach, other than incorporating the practice for 10/15 minutes at the beginning and the end of the school day of the Transcendental Meditation programme within a moment of ‘Quiet Time’ (QT/TM).

Quiet … what?

The Quiet Time with Transcendental Meditation (QT/TM) Programme for schools, already adopted in two Erasmus+ KA3 co-funded projects (EUROPE and FRIENDS) involving 7 European countries, aims to respond to educational challenges providing an evidence-based strategy different from conventional ones, being an whole-school approach proven to enhance people’s mental health, well-being, reduce anxiety and promote inclusive education, introducing the practice for 10/15 minutes at the beginning and the end of the school day, of the scientifically proven mind-body technique known as Transcendental Meditation (TM) Programme.

Transcendental Meditation:

A scientifically proven approach

The programme effectiveness is well documented, with Transcendental Meditation being the most researched meditation technique in the world (only in Medline more than 385 references) including hundreds of studies in peer-reviewed journals and many RCTs and yields the best results from all meditation techniques.

Over 600 scientific research studies conducted at more than 250 universities and research institutes in 33 countries, many published in leading peer-reviewed journals, have documented the beneficial effects of Transcendental Meditation for the development of brain integration, mental potential, socio-emotional skills, health, social behaviour, and the social environment.

These include studies showing improvements in the set of cognitive, emotional and behavioural competencies that are part of social and emotional learning including self-awareness, self-regulation, social awareness, emotional balance, responsible decision-making, critical thinking and relationship skills, and also studies showing its effectiveness in reducing stress and anxiety, improving overall resilience, mental health and well-being and improving academic performances.

In the two previous EU co-funded projects (EUROPE and FRIENDS) implementing TM in about 50 schools and clusters of schools, and involving altogether 1250 teachers, 2500 learners and over 300 parents, the teachers showed a marked improvement in several areas, both from the quantitative study as well as from the qualitative study. The research ws conducted by the University of Algarve (PT), University of Bologna (IT) and Utrecht University of Applied Science (NL).

Quantitative results include:
