On Thursday 26th September 2019 there was a free public conference, ‘SOCIAL INCLUSION THROUGH EDUCATION’, at which the interim results of the FRIENDS project, aimed at promoting respect for diversity, tolerance and social inclusion in the learning environment, were presented.

It was held at the Maharishi Peace Palace, Rendlesham, UK and included a face-to-face dissemination meeting with all those involved: the participating schools and all others interested in the programme’s implementation.

The conference was aimed at policy makers, members of senior leadership teams, and the whole school community from all schools that are interested in learning more about how to solve the wide range of educational challenges caused by social problems, learning difficulties and the increasing diversity in the learning environment.

Richard Johnson, National Director of Maharishi Foundation, the educational charity teaching Transcendental Meditation in Great Britain and one of 14 partners in the project’s consortium, commented: “Staff found they are more able to cope with the stress of their job and the behaviour of pupils has improved. The results are being monitored by several European universities. What is interesting is that positive results have been seen in different cultures and geographical locations.”
